Read about Matrix here

Neo-Midgar now officially has a Matrix server! If this means something to you, you can add me at @coda:neomidgar.xyz.

Registration

If you’re interested in registering for the server, you have a few options. First, since the server uses Synapse, there is no in-house way to manage registration, making it a more manual process. It is however doable and I’m perfectly okay with letting people register an account. Second, registration is not an open process. That is, I only plan on letting people I know or trust register an account.

Email:

You can contact me at devcoordinate@gmail.com. Send me an email titled something to do with Matrix, and include who you are and why you’d like an account.

Existing Matrix User:

If you are an existing Matrix user, and are considering using a different or perhaps less crowded homeserver (e.g. matrix.org’s homeserver), you can contact me on Matrix with the above contact information.

After Registering

If you’ve just received a brand-new Matrix account, congratulations! You’re almost ready to start using it. Please consider following these important steps before doing anything else:

  1. Change your password. The password I’ve supplied you with will be one that I’ve generated and set myself. While I don’t keep track of the password I gave you or intend on signing into your account, it’s a good idea to set it to something you came up with yourself, and that no one else has access to.
  2. Back-up your security key. This is done in various ways depending on the client you’re using, so be sure to follow the instructions for your client. On Element, click your profile in the top-left corner, navigate to Security & Privacy, and follow the instructions under Secure Backup. It’s a good idea to store this key in a password manager, if you have one. I recommend pass for Linux users.

Now you’re ready to use your Matrix account. Have fun!
